Student Union of the Faculty of Medicine

THE STUDENT UNION OF THE FACULTY OF MEDICINE

SUFM has existed since 1998, and it was founded by the current Vice Dean for Teaching at the Faculty of Medicine, Professor Dr. Nenad Ponorac. Currently, the Student Union of the Faculty of Medicine is an organisation whose main goal is to protect the rights and interests of students and to improve study conditions. One of the main functions and efforts of the Student Union is the improvement of the teaching process. The Student Union can be praised as one of the most organised and strongest unions in the region, that the members have been the initiators and founders of the Student Parliament of the University of Banja Luka, that they help the MF students in attending congresses and seminars around the world, etc. In addition to this, the Student Union animates students by providing them the opportunity to get involved and actively work through six sections, so that currently there are approximately 2,500 members, of which over 100 are active members.

RED CROSS ORGANIZATION AT THE FACULTY OF MEDICINE

Founded in 2023, this organization provides medical students with the opportunity to learn proper first aid. It currently has around 50 members, including about ten first aid instructors, as well as instructors in realistic injury simulation, health conditions, reproductive health, safety, and water rescue. Seven educational cycles are organized annually, and those interested can sign up at the SUFM office.

JOURNALISM SECTION (JS)

Re-established in July 2007, the section focuses primarily on “Limfi,” the medical students’ journal. The magazine is published once per semester and covers topics such as student activities, university affairs, and other relevant issues. The section has sixteen regular members and around ten external collaborators, including students, section coordinators, and faculty members.

RESEARCH SECTION (SNIR)

This section resumed its work in June 2006 after a long break and currently has twenty members. Our students have actively participated in international congresses across Europe and the world.

SPORTS SECTION (SS)

Founded in 2000, this section has around 80 members across seven subsections (sports): football, basketball, volleyball, handball, athletics, tennis, and chess. The teams have participated in numerous competitions, with the University Games and Medical Olympics being especially notable. The most successful sports are athletics and chess. Those interested can join any of the subsections at the SUFM office.

STUDENT MEDICINE DAYS 2024

For the first time in Banja Luka, in 2024, the Student Union of the Faculty of Medicine organized the STUDENT MEDICINE DAYS. These days are dedicated to promoting innovations, knowledge exchange, and building connections between medical students, professionals, and relevant institutions. Around 100 students from the Faculty of Medicine in Banja Luka, and 5 students from the Faculty of Medicine in Foča, participated in 10 lectures by top experts from various fields, as well as numerous practical workshops.
