Continuing education (CE) involves continuous education on professional and scientific achievements in medical sciences. Doctors of medicine have the right and obligation to continuously follow the development of medical science, in addition to improving their work by professional and scientific improvement. This stems from the obligation that patients must be provided with the highest quality services both in prevention and in the treatment process.

Formally, the CE process enables medical doctors, doctors of dental medicine and masters of pharmacy to retain the right to work (license), and in essence provides patients with a more quality health care.

The continuous improvement of medical doctors, doctors of dental medicine and masters of pharmacy involves a continuous process, which does not end with the completion of studies or specialisation, but constitutes an on-going process which is performed through programmes of continuous medical education.

Continuing education entails the development of knowledge, skills and professional competencies, in addition to information on innovations in medicine, related sciences and health technology in order to maintain and improve the work quality of health workers and health associates. Within its mission of providing quality education in health care at all levels, the Faculty, through continuing education, enables health workers and health associates to exercise their right and obligation to permanently improve by following the professional and scientific developments in medical and other sciences.

At the Faculty, continuing education is organised and conducted in accordance with the Law on Health Care of the Republic of Srpska (“Official Gazette of the Republic of Srpska”, 106/09 and 44/15), Rulebook on conducting Continuing education for health workers and health associates No 59/16, Rulebook on the work of the Centre for Specialist Studies and Continuing Education at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Banja Luka, taking into account the views and recommendations of the European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (EACCME®).
