The Library of the Faculty of Medicine provides a collection of scientific materials that, in its scope and content, ensures essential support for the study process and scientific research in the field of medical and health sciences.

The primary task of the library is the collection and processing of an adequate library collection, providing scientific materials that facilitate education and the implementation of scientific research processes, and offering users information related to library resources.

The library’s collection includes monographic publications (books), serial publications (journals), doctoral dissertations, master’s theses, graduate theses, specialist papers, seminar papers, scientific research projects, guides, brochures, and informational bulletins, and it is continually growing. In addition to acquisition policies, gifts, and donations, the library’s collection is enriched through the publishing activities of the Faculty of Medicine. Among the monographic publications (books), the library not only provides textbook literature for students but also professional literature intended for residents in postgraduate studies and other forms of professional development.

The library collection currently consists of 10,048 books (3,561 titles) in printed form. In addition to monographic publications (books), the library also holds a selection of serial publications (journals).

The library currently has 3,391 printed journals. A number of journals in Serbian regularly arrive at the library, and their acquisition is ongoing. These include the Vojnosanitetski pregled (Journal of Military Doctors and Pharmacists of the Serbian Armed Forces), Acta Medica Medianae (Journal of the Faculty of Medicine in Niš), Scripta Medica (Journal of the Society of Medical Doctors of Republika Srpska), Medici.com (Mosaic of Medical Communications), and the Medicinski žurnal (Journal of the Clinical Center of Sarajevo). In addition to these, the library receives a significant number of journals in English, although their acquisition is not continuous. Apart from printed serial publications, the library also holds a large collection of serial publications in electronic form.

The Library of the Faculty of Medicine has annual subscription-based access to the following databases through the “Research4Life” program: Research for Health (Hinari), Research in Agriculture (Agora), Research in the Environment (Oare), and Research for Development and Innovation (Ardi).

The Library of the Faculty of Medicine, thanks to the mentioned collection, has access to the electronic scientific database of the World Health Organization, the Hinari database, which contains over 15,000 titles of the most renowned biomedical journals and a large number of books in electronic format.

Hinari is an electronic scientific database of the World Health Organization based in Geneva, containing over 15,000 titles of biomedical journals in electronic format.

Within the electronic scientific database Hinari, there are scientific journal databases from Ovid, Springer, Taylor & Francis, Elsevier (a part), Karger, BMJ Journals, Oxford University Press, Cambridge University Press, Wiley, Nature Publishing Group, Thieme, and Canadian Science Publishing, which contain a vast number of scientific articles in full text.

In addition to the mentioned scientific journal databases, the Hinari database also contains a large number of collections of biomedical journals in electronic format.

These are biomedical journal collections such as PubMed, HighWire, and Free Medical Journal, which contain a large number of serial publications in electronic format. The publishers of these journals are renowned global publishing houses.

The listed electronic scientific journals can be accessed on the computers in the library of the Faculty of Medicine. Interested users can also send a list of references or articles they need to the official email of the library staff at the Faculty of Medicine, who will assist them in retrieving the required scientific papers.

In addition to the mentioned biomedical journals in electronic form, the Hinari database also contains a large number of books in electronic form.

To enhance the visibility of research results from all members of the University of Banja Luka, all doctoral dissertations, master’s theses, and master’s works since 2017 have been stored in the University of Banja Luka’s digital repository (E-theses, Phaidra) and are visible on the University’s website, contributing to the improvement of research activities.

Additionally, on the University of Banja Luka’s website, within the digital repository of scientific works (Sova), the scientific papers of the University’s faculty members, published in open-access journals, are also entered and visible.

The Library of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Banja Luka is currently in the process of accessing the library information system COBISS.RS. The current number of items in the library’s collection and the current number of registered users are:

The library has 6 computers connected to the internet. Library users are provided with uninterrupted internet access, allowing them to quickly and efficiently access valuable scientific information. The library users include undergraduate and postgraduate students, faculty staff, and other visitors from various healthcare institutions. The number of library users is continuously increasing, and there are currently 5,180 members. Most books can be borrowed and taken out of the library for a period of one month, with the option for extension. However, other materials such as atlases, unique books, master’s theses, doctoral dissertations, bachelor’s theses, journals, and dictionaries must be used within the faculty reading room.

The library and reading room cover an area of 150 m².

The reading room has 27 reading spaces available.

The library of the Faculty of Medicine is located at the University Clinical Center of the Republic of Srpska, Dvanaest beba Street, bb. The library operates every working day in two shifts, from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM.
