DENTAL MEDICINE

DENTAL MEDICINE

Graduate academic studies (integrated study) in Dental Medicine last for six academic years, and the lectures consist of basic and elective courses. The Dental Medicine Study Programme yields the educational profile DOCTOR OF DENTAL MEDICINE – 360 ECTS. During the first semesters, students are expected to gain knowledge in basic natural sciences (which are significant for the Dental Medicine studies) and basic medical sciences, while the lectures during the senior years of study are more oriented towards professional and professional-applied courses in dental medicine. In the 11th and 12th semester, professional practice is conducted through block teaching, necessary for future professional work, as well as preparation for the final thesis.

DENTAL MEDICINE

Study programme objectives

The primary objective of the integrated academic studies of dental medicine is to provide students with necessary skills and theoretical knowledge, as well as with the satisfactory level of practical experience for their future profession. This is realised through the following:

  • primary, secondary, and tertiary healthcare and dental medicine level
  • educational and scientific research activity within the fields of dental medicine and complementary disciplines.

Students are offered an opportunity of participating in research projects, where they are introduced to basic methods of scientific research: statistical, epidemiological, molecular, and genetic. In addition, the integrated studies provide students with the knowledge required for the continuation of academic studies at the third cycle (doctoral studies).

The Faculty of Medicine is permanently dedicated to quality assurance policies and improving the competences of dental medicine doctors, in order for them to meet the demands of the profession and the market in general. In this respect, the Faculty feels very much obliged to the society to participate in basic and advanced studies and applied research on new approaches to treating oral cavity diseases, on new drugs and their respective administration, and on new preventive programmes and possible methods of their effective implementation. Continuous education in the aforementioned areas enables constant professional development for dental medicine doctors. These general objectives are intended as guidelines for dental medicine doctors on how to further their professional skills.

Enrolment requirements

The Study Programme of Dental Medicine is open for candidates who graduated from a 4-year secondary school in the Republic of Srpska, the Brcko District, and the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as for candidates who graduated from a 4-year secondary school abroad.

In case of the latter, all the necessary documents that serve as a proof of completion of this level of education are subject to a validation process conducted by the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Srpska.

Students who have acquired their secondary school qualifications in the Republic of Serbia are exempt from a validation process, according to the provisions of the Agreement on Mutual Recognition and Regulation of Students’ and University Students’ Status Issues (Official Gazette of the Republic of Srpska, Issue 79/05).

Students are enrolled on a competitive basis, in line with their secondary school success and score made at an entrance test, as defined by a public competition announced by the University of Banja Luka. Upon the completion of the competition, a rank list is formed featuring the eligible candidates.

The number of candidates is determined by the Senate of the University, at the proposal of the Staff Council of the Faculty, with the Government of the Republic of Srpska sanctioning the decision.

The public competition for the enrolment on first-cycle academic studies is announced by the University, at the proposal of the Staff Council of the Faculty. The competition is advertised in public media and on the official website of the University.

MIDWIFERY

MIDWIFERY

Graduate academic studies in Midwifery last for four academic years and consist of basic classes and elective courses. The total number of courses on the study programme (including the final thesis) is 49, which include 44 mandatory courses, 5 elective courses and the thesis. The Midwifery Study Programme yields the educational profile BACHELOR OF MIDWIFERY- 240 ECTS. The main goal of the academic studies is to provide the necessary theoretical and clinical training in the field of midwifery. The midwife is recognised as a responsible and reliable professional, who works in partnership with women, provides support, care and advice during pregnancy, birth and midwifery, monitors childbirth independently and provides care for new-borns and infants. The care involves preventive measures, promotion of natural birth, recognition of complications in mothers and children, access to health care and other forms of appropriate support, as well as implementation of emergency procedures in case of danger.

MIDWIFERY

Study programme objectives

The primary objective of the integrated studies of midwifery is to provide students with necessary theoretical and clinical knowledge and skills in midwifery. The EU 2005/36 EG midwifery education directive implies the following:

  • Education of pregnant women, including 100 prenatal examinations
  • Parturient women care  and assistance to 40 women in labour
  • A student has to deliver 40 childbirths.
  • Active involvement – providing assistance during pelvic presentation deliveries. If, due to shortage of that type of delivery, that is not possible, a student is allowed to train on a dummy.
  • Performing an episiotomy and providing assistance with stitching an episiotomy wound and minor ruptures. Introduction to these procedures contains theoretical lessons and practical training. If that is not possible, stitching a wound may be performed on a dummy.
  • Care of and assistance to 40 risky pregnant women, deliveries, or parturient women.
  • Care and supervision of at least 100 parturient women and healthy newborns with respective examinations provided.
  • Care and supervision of newborns at health risk, such as pre-term deliveries, post-term deliveries, and ill-born babies.
  • Care of women with pathological conditions in gynecology and obstetrics.
  •  Introduction to healthcare and midwifery  in the fields of medicine and surgery (theoretical knowledge and practical skills)

Enrolment requirements

The Study Programme of Midwifery is open for candidates who graduated from a 4-year secondary school in the Republic of Srpska, the Brcko District, and the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as for candidates who graduated from a 4-year secondary school abroad.

PHYSIOTHERAPY

PHYSIOTHERAPY

Graduate academic studies in Physiotherapy last for four academic years. Students who complete this study cycle receive the academic title BACHELOR IN PSYSIOTHERAPY –240 ECTS. The Physiotherapy Study Programme enables students to gain theoretical knowledge and practical skills through basic, medical, health and specific professional teaching content, as well as gaining knowledge in IT, research, problem solving and independent decision-making, in addition to decisions in the health and rehabilitation teams.

Study programme objectives

The primary objective of the integrated academic studies of physiotherapy is to provide students with necessary skills and theoretical knowledge, as well as with the satisfactory level of practical experience for their future profession. This is realised through the following:

  • primary, secondary, and tertiary healthcare
  • educational and scientific research activity within the fields of physiotherapy and complementary disciplines.

Enrolment requirements

The Study Programme of Physiotherapy is open for candidates who graduated from a 4-year secondary school in the Republic of Srpska, the Brcko District, and the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as for candidates who graduated from a 4-year secondary school abroad.

MEDICAL LABORATORY DIAGNOSTICS

MEDICAL LABORATORY DIAGNOSTICS

Graduate academic studies in Medical Laboratory Diagnostics last for four academic years. The Medical Laboratory Diagnostics Study Programme yields the educational profile BACHELOR OF MEDICAL LABORATORY DIAGNOSTICS– 240 ECTS. The studies on this programme provide a basis for a better understanding of clinical medical conditions, in addition to the application of laboratory methodology and instrumental techniques. The goals and competencies of certain courses such as immunology, clinical biochemistry, hematology, microbiology, transfusiology, molecular biology, cytology, but also other subjects which are closely related to medical laboratory science, have one common goal, which is prevention, detection, treatment and disease monitoring.

МEDICAL LABORATORY DIAGNOSTICS

Study programme objectives

The primary objective of multidisciplinary studies of medical laboratory diagnostics is to provide students with necessary knowledge and skills for independent performance in laboratories of primary, secondary, and tertiary health institutions, of health and scientific institutes, of biotechnological and/or pharmaceutical companies, as well as for scientific and clinical research activities.

Enrolment requirements

The Study Programme of Medical Laboratory Diagnostics is open for candidates who graduated from a 4-year secondary school in the Republic of Srpska, the Brcko District, and the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as for candidates who graduated from a 4-year secondary school abroad.

RADIOLOGICAL TECHNOLOGY

RADIOLOGICAL TECHNOLOGY

Graduate academic studies in Radiological Technology last for four academic years. Lectures on this study programme consist of basic and elective courses. The total number of courses on the study programme including the final thesis is 44, which include 38 mandatory courses, 5 elective courses and the thesis. The Radiological Technology Study Programme yields the educational profile BACHELOR OF RADIOLOGICAL TECHNOLOGY – 240 ECTS. The Radiological Technology Study Programme enables students to gain theoretical knowledge and practical skills through certain basic, health and specific professional teaching content, as well as gaining knowledge in IT, research, problem solving and decision-making in teams for radiological technology, radiotherapy and nuclear medicine.

RADIOLOGICAL TECHNOLOGY

Study programme objectives:

The primary objective of the integrated academic studies of radiological technology is to provide students with necessary skills and theoretical knowledge, as well as with the satisfactory level of practical experience for their future profession. This is realised through the following:

  • primary, secondary, and tertiary healthcare
  • educational and scientific research activity within the fields of radiologicaltechnology and complementary disciplines.

Enrolment requirements

The Study Programme of Radiological tehnology is open for candidates who graduated from a 4-year secondary school in the Republic of Srpska, the Brcko District, and the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as for candidates who graduated from a 4-year secondary school abroad.

SANITARY ENGINEERING

SANITARY ENGINEERING

Graduate academic studies in Sanitary Engineering last for four academic years. Lectures on this study programme consist of basic and elective courses and is performed through a total of 44 courses including the final thesis. The Sanitary Engineering Study Programme yields the educational profile BACHELOR OF SANITARY ENGINEERING – 240 ECTS. During the Sanitary Engineering Study Programme, students gain skills necessary for performing complex tasks in the field of health care and prevention of individuals, families and the society by applying hygienic-sanitary and epidemiological measures.

SANITARY ENGINEERING

Study programme objectives

The primary objective of the integrated academic studies of sanitary engineering is to provide students with necessary skills and theoretical knowledge, as well as with the satisfactory level of practical experience for their future profession. This is realised through the following:

  • primary, secondary, and tertiary healthcare
  • educational and scientific research activity within the fields of sanitary engineering and complementary disciplines.

Enrolment requirements

The Study Programme of Sanitary Engineering is open for candidates who graduated from a 4-year secondary school in the Republic of Srpska, the Brcko District, and the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as for candidates who graduated from a 4-year secondary school abroad.

NURSING

NURSING

Graduate academic studies in Nursing last for four academic years. The programme consists of basic courses and is performed through a total of 45 mandatory courses (with the final thesis). The Nursing Study Programme yields the educational profile BACHELOR OF NURSING – 240 ECTS. The Nursing Programme enables students to gain theoretical knowledge and practical skills through basic, medical, health and specific professional teaching content, as well as gaining knowledge in IT, research, problem solving and decision-making in health care teams. The nursing profession is constantly evolving and becoming more challenging.

NURSING

Study programme objectives

The primary objective of the integrated academic studies of nursing is to provide students with necessary skills and theoretical knowledge, as well as with the satisfactory level of practical experience for their future profession. This is realised through the following:

  • primary, secondary, and tertiary healthcare
  • educational and scientific research activity within the fields of nursing and complementary disciplines.

Enrolment requirements

The Study Programme of Nursing is open for candidates who graduated from a 4-year secondary school in the Republic of Srpska, the Brcko District, and the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as for candidates who graduated from a 4-year secondary school abroad.
